Kabalikat
A program of the Philippine Forum.
kABALikAT Domestic Workers' Support Network, a
program of the Philippine
Forum, was launched in March of 2007. The Philippine Forum,
founded in 1996, is a not for profit community based organization
geared towards raising Filipino-American awareness of their roots,
rights, and responsibilities.
kABALikAT was formed to address & support
issues relevant to domestic workers; protect their rights; and
assure their well being. More importantly,
kABALikAT serves as a "space" where they share
their lives and experiences as migrant workers.
The kABALikAT leadership is composed of
domestic workers dedicated to serving other domestic workers. In
this light, kABALikAT welcomes other migrant workers and
individuals who want to be involved in its work.
In 2008 kABALikAT established their home at the
Bayanihan Filipino Community Center. The Bayanihan Center now
serves as kABALikAT'sinformation hub. kABALikAT
provides its members with listings
of employment opportunities; education through workshops, forums
& seminars that tackle migrant concerns; acts as a support
system for dealing with their personal issues; educational and
recreational day trips; and a place to hold their fellowships.
Recent campaigns for kABALikAT include Justice
for Fely Garcia & Justice for Putli Asjali.
